MEMPHIS, TN - Meghan Lynn Hedgepeth, a junior agriculture business management major at North Carolina State University, received the 2001 Cotton Grower Millennium Grant.
The scholarship program, supported by a grant to The Cotton Foundation from Cotton Grower Magazine in cooperation with the National Cotton Council, provides a $2,500 award to a college student majoring in agriculture and planning a career in the cotton industry.
The selection criterion is based on academic achievement, leadership, individual accomplishment and an essay about the applicant's goals and ambitions. The selection committee includes leading agribusiness company officials and a cotton producer.
Hedgepeth, the daughter of Jim and Priscilla Hedgepeth, Conway, NC, spent her summers helping out with fieldwork and other duties on her parents' cotton farm. Her career goal is to become involved in agriculture in her community, either through support industries such as production credit banks and cooperatives, or on the farm itself.
Bob Usry, Hedgepeth's faculty advisor, said, "Meghan is an excellent student with a genuine interest in agriculture. She knows agriculture and lives it, and has the desire to be involved in agriculture professionally."
The 2000 Millennium Grant recipient was Paige Sullivan of Mississippi State University.
