MEMPHIS –The National Cotton Council congratulates Rep. Conaway (R-TX) on being selected by the House Republican Conference to chair the House Committee on Agriculture in the 114th Congress beginning in January. The announcement of the chairman-elect was made this week following House organizational meetings and chairmen elections.
NCC Chairman Wally Darneille said, "The cotton industry is looking forward to continuing to work closely with Rep. Conaway in his new role as chairman. All of U.S. agriculture is fortunate to have someone of his knowledge and experience serving in this role at such a critical time. Chairman-elect Conaway has been a strong and effective advocate for the U.S. cotton industry for years."
"U.S. cotton growers are appreciative of the tremendous efforts of Rep. Conaway in the development of the most recent farm law and are excited for him to have the opportunity to serve as the 50th chairman of the House Agriculture Committee," said Jimmy Dodson, a Robstown, TX producer and immediate past chairman of NCC.
"Rep. Conaway has proven himself to be a positive and thoughtful voice in developing policy and balancing the views and interests of a diverse agricultural industry in this country. We look forward to what should be a smooth transition from current Chairman Lucas (R-OK), who has done a tremendous job in shepherding the current farm law through Congress," said Woody Anderson, a Colorado City, TX producer and past chairman of NCC.
Rep. Conaway represents the 11th congressional district in Texas, one of the largest cotton producing districts in the U.S.# # #
