USDA’s March Prospective Plantings Report indicates U.S. producers intend to plant 12.2 million cotton acres in 2022, 9.0% more than the previous year.
Upland area is projected to be 12.1 million acres, 8.7% more than 2021 while extra-long staple (ELS) area is projected at 176,000 acres, a 39.1% increase from 2021.
The NCC’s planting intentions survey, released in early February, indicated U.S. cotton producers intend to plant 11.9 million upland acres and 158,000 ELS acres.
